‘This is in place of your Umrah.’” She said:

“Those who had entered ihram for Umrah circumambulated the House and passed between al-Safā and al-Marwah, then left ihram. After returning from Minā, they performed another circumambulation for their Hajj. As for those who had combined Hajj and Umrah, they performed only one circumambulation.”

The two Sahīhs and the Sunan also relate from Ā’ishah that she said:

“We entered ihram for Hajj. When we reached Sarif, I began menstruating. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came in while I was weeping and asked, ‘What makes you weep, Ā’ishah?’ I replied, ‘I have begun menstruating. I wish I had not come for Hajj.’ He said, ‘Glory be to Allah! This is simply something Allah has decreed for the daughters of Adam.’ He then said, ‘Perform all the rites, but do not circumambulate the House.’

“When we entered Mecca, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, ‘Whoever wishes to make it an Umrah may do so, except someone who has brought a sacrificial animal.’ The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, sacrificed cattle on behalf of his wives on the Day of Sacrifice. When the night at al-Bathā’ came and Ā’ishah had become free of menstruation, she said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, will my companions return with Hajj and Umrah while I return with Hajj alone?’ The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, instructed Abd al-Rahmān ibn Abī Bakr to take her to perform Umrah from al-Tan‘īm, and she performed Umrah.”
