by someone about performing ‘umrah after Hajj, and she instructed him to do so.
‘Atā’ was asked about ‘umrah from al-Tan‘īm and said, “It is complete and valid.”
Al-Qāsim ibn Muhammad said, “The ‘umrah of one in ritual consecration is complete.”
‘Abd al-Razzāq narrated in his Musannaf: “Someone who heard ‘Atā’ informed me that he said, ‘Seven circuits are better for you than travelling to Medina.’ The man asked, ‘Should I go to Jeddah, then?’ He replied, ‘No. What you have been commanded to do is circumambulate.’ He said, ‘I asked, “Should I go out to al-Shajarah and begin ‘umrah from there?” He replied, “No.”’
“He said, ‘One of the scholars said, “My feet have not moved since I arrived in Mecca.”’ He said, ‘I asked, “Then do you prefer going back and forth to passing through?” He replied, “No; rather, going back and forth.”’”
‘Abd al-Razzāq said: “My father informed me: ‘I said to al-Muthannā, “I intend to go to Medina.” He replied, “Do not do so. I heard a man ask ‘Atā’, who told him, ‘Seven circuits around the House are better for you than travelling to Medina.’”’”
Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah narrated in al-Musannaf: “Wakī‘ narrated to us from Sufyān, from Aslam al-Minq arī, who said: ‘I said to ‘Atā’, “Should I go out to Medina and enter ritual consecration for ‘umrah from the Prophet’s appointed boundary, may Allah bless him and grant him peace?” He replied, “Your circumambulation of the House is preferable to me to your travelling to Medina.”’”
He also said: “Wakī‘ narrated to us: ‘Umar ibn Zarr narrated to us from Mujāhid, who said, ‘Your circumambulation of the House is preferable to me to your travelling to Medina.’”
He also said: “Ismā‘īl ibn ‘Abd al-Malik narrated to us from ‘Atā’, who said, ‘Circumambulating the House is preferable to me to going out to perform ‘umrah.’”
