Likewise, moderation and balance must be observed regarding the Companions and the Prophet’s relatives—may Allah be pleased with them. Allah Most High praised His Prophet’s Companions—both the forerunners and those who followed them in righteousness. He declared that He is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him, and mentioned them in verses of His Book, such as His words:
“Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those with him are firm against the disbelievers and merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating, seeking Allah’s bounty and pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the traces of prostration. That is their description in the Torah. Their description in the Gospel is like a plant that sends out its shoots, which strengthen it, so it grows thick and stands firmly on its stalks, delighting the sowers—so that through them He may enrage the disbelievers. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds forgiveness and a tremendous reward.”
Allah Most High also says:
“Allah was certainly pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you beneath the tree. He knew what was in their hearts, so He sent down tranquillity upon them and rewarded them with a victory near at hand.”
The authentic hadith collections report that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“Do not revile my Companions. By Him in Whose Hand is my soul, if any of you were to spend gold equal to Mount Uhud, it would not equal a mudd (a small measure) given by one of them, nor even half of it.”
