in His dominion, nor any share in it; that He has no helper among His creation whose assistance He needs; and that intercession before Him is of no benefit except by His permission.
Allah Most High said:
“How many angels there are in the heavens whose intercession avails nothing, except after Allah gives permission for whom He wills and approves.”
Allah Most High also said:
“Have they taken intercessors besides Allah? Say, ‘Even though they possess nothing and have no understanding?’”
“Say, ‘All intercession belongs to Allah. His is the dominion of the heavens and the earth. Then to Him you will be returned.’”
Allah Most High also said:
“They worship besides Allah what can neither harm nor benefit them, and they say, ‘These are our intercessors with Allah.’ Say, ‘Are you informing Allah of something He does not know in the heavens or on earth?’”
And the verse continues.
Worshipping Allah alone is the foundation of the religion. This is the monotheism with which Allah sent the messengers and revealed the Scriptures. Allah Most High said:
“Ask those of Our messengers whom We sent before you: ‘Did We appoint any gods besides the Most Merciful to be worshipped?’”
Allah Most High also said:
“We certainly sent a messenger to every nation, saying, ‘Worship Allah and shun false objects of worship.’”
Allah Most High also said:
“We never sent a messenger before you without revealing to him: ‘There is no god but Me, so worship Me.’”
The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, upheld monotheism and taught it to his community. Thus, when a man said to him, “Whatever Allah wills and you will,” he replied, “Have you made me a rival to Allah? Rather, say: ‘Whatever Allah alone wills.’”
He also said: “Do not say, ‘Whatever Allah wills and Muhammad wills.’ Instead, say, ‘Whatever Allah wills, then Muhammad wills.’”
He forbade swearing by anyone other than Allah, saying: “Whoever wishes to swear an oath should swear by Allah or remain silent.”
