Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

The term “sinful conduct” encompasses everything Allah Most High has forbidden; it is not limited to verbal abuse. Although reviling a Muslim is sinful conduct, the term encompasses this and other acts as well. “Sexual intimacy” means intercourse. Among the prohibited acts, only acts of sexual intercourse invalidate Hajj; hence the distinction drawn between sexual intimacy and sinful conduct.

As for the other prohibited acts, such as wearing prohibited clothing and applying perfume, although one sins by committing them, they do not invalidate Hajj according to any of the well-known imams. A person in ihrām should speak only of matters that concern him. When Shurayh entered ihrām, he would become like a deaf snake.

A person does not enter ihrām merely by having the intention and resolve to perform Hajj in his heart, for that resolve has remained in his heart ever since he left his hometown. Rather, there must be some utterance or action by which he enters ihrām. This is the correct one of the two views.

Removing prohibited clothing is obligatory in ihrām, but it is not a condition for its validity. If someone enters ihrām while still wearing such clothing, his ihrām is valid, as established by the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and by the agreement of the leading scholars. He must, however, remove the prohibited clothing.

It is recommended to enter ihrām immediately after a prayer, whether obligatory or voluntary, if it is
