Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

refutes the claim of those who say that he combined umrah and Hajj but performed two sets of circumambulation and two sets of walking between Safā and Marwa, as well as those who say that he came out of ihrām. Thus, the reports of the Companions who related that he performed Hajj alone refute these claims.

This is clarified by what Muslim narrated in his Sahīh from Nāfi‘, from Ibn ‘Umar, who said:

“We entered ihrām for Hajj with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who was performing Hajj alone.”

Another version reads: “He entered ihrām for Hajj alone.”

Thus, they reported only that Ibn ‘Umar said, “He performed Hajj alone,” not that he said, “He recited the talbiya for Hajj.” In the Sunan collections, al-Barā’ ibn ‘Āzib reported:

“The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to ‘Alī: ‘I have brought the sacrificial animals and combined umrah and Hajj.’”

In the two Sahīhs, al-Zuhrī narrated from Sālim, from his father, from ‘Abd Allāh ibn ‘Umar, who said:

“The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, performed tamattu during the Farewell Pilgrimage, combining umrah with Hajj. He brought sacrificial animals with him, driving them from Dhū al-Hulayfa. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, performed umrah, entering ihrām for umrah and then for Hajj. The people likewise performed tamattu with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, combining umrah with Hajj. Some brought sacrificial animals with them, while others did not.

“When the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, arrived in Mecca, he said to the people: ‘Those of you who have brought sacrificial animals must not resume anything forbidden to them in ihrām until they have completed their Hajj. Those of you who have not brought sacrificial animals should circumambulate the House, pass between Safā and Marwa, shorten their hair and come out of ihrām. Then they should enter ihrām for Hajj and offer sacrificial animals. Whoever cannot find a sacrificial animal must fast three days during Hajj and seven
