Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

He was asked:

A woman performed her obligatory Hajj but had not performed ‘umrah. In the second year, she intended to perform Hajj on behalf of her daughter. The first time, she had entered the state of ritual consecration for both Hajj and ‘umrah. Is she required to perform another ‘umrah?

He replied:

No further ‘umrah is required of her on account of what has already passed. If, however, she performs ‘umrah this year on her own behalf, separately from the ‘umrah on behalf of her daughter, that is permissible.

He was also asked, may Allah have mercy on him:

What do the learned say of a man
Whom the Lord of the Throne has granted wealth, who has performed Hajj and ‘umrah?

Joyful longing for the Chosen One has stirred his heart—
Do you deem Hajj better, or giving his wealth to the poor?

Or is performing Hajj on his father’s behalf better?
Or what, my masters, has become clear to you?
