we worship Him as He has prescribed, not through religious innovations.

Allah Most High says:

“So whoever hopes to meet his Lord, let him do righteous deeds and associate no one in the worship of his Lord.”

Righteous deeds are those that Allah and His Messenger love: deeds prescribed by Allah and in accordance with the Sunnah. This is why ʿUmar ibn al-Khattāb, may Allah be pleased with him, used to say in his supplication:

“O Allah, make all my deeds righteous, make them sincerely for Your sake, and let no one else have any share in them.”

This is also why the foundations of Islam revolve around three hadiths: the Prophet’s saying, may Allah bless him and grant him peace:

“Actions are judged only by intentions, and each person will have only what they intended.”

His saying:

“Whoever performs a deed that is not in accordance with our teaching will have it rejected.”

And his saying:

“What is lawful is clear, and what is unlawful is clear. Between them are doubtful matters that many people do not know. Whoever avoids doubtful matters safeguards his religion and honour, while whoever falls into doubtful matters falls into what is unlawful, like a shepherd grazing his flock around a protected pasture, on the verge of entering it. Indeed, every king has a protected domain, and Allah’s protected domain consists of the things He has forbidden. Indeed, within the body is a morsel of flesh: if it is sound, the whole body is sound, and if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt. Indeed, it is the heart.”
