“I asked Ahmad about the hadith narrated by Habīb ibn al-Shahīd, from Maymūn ibn Mihrān, from Ibn ‘Abbās: ‘The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) underwent cupping while fasting and in ihrām.’ He replied: ‘It is not authentic; Yahyā ibn Sa‘īd al-Ansārī rejected it.’”
Al-Athram said:
“I heard Abū ‘Abd Allāh reject this hadith and declare it weak. He said: ‘Al-Ansārī’s books were lost during the days of al-Muntasir. Thereafter, he narrated from his servant’s books, and this report was among those.’”
(Muhannā said: “I asked Ahmad about the hadith narrated by Qabīsah, from Sufyān, from Hammād, from Sa‘īd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ‘Abbās, etc. He replied: ‘This is an error on Qabīsah’s part.’”) (*).
“I also asked Yahyā about Qabīsah. He replied: ‘He is a truthful man, but the hadith he narrates from Sufyān, from Sa‘īd, is an error on his part.’”

“I asked Ahmad about the hadith of Ibn ‘Abbās: ‘The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) underwent cupping while in ihrām and fasting.’ He replied: ‘It does not contain the words “while fasting”; it says only “while in ihrām.” Sufyān narrated it from ‘Amr ibn Dīnār, from Tāwūs, from Ibn ‘Abbās: “The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) underwent cupping on his head while in ihrām.” The same was reported from Tāwūs and ‘Atā’, from Ibn ‘Abbās, and from ‘Abd al-Razzāq, from Ma‘mar, from Ibn Khuthaym, from Sa‘īd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ‘Abbās. These companions of Ibn ‘Abbās do not mention “while fasting.”’”
