It is also established in the Sahīh that he said:

“Were it not that you might cease burying one another, I would ask Allah to let you hear something of the punishment of the grave, as I hear it.”

It is also established in the Sahīh that he called out to the polytheists on the day of Badr, after he had them thrown into the well, and said:

“You do not hear what I say any better than they do.”

“Does a mother’s and brothers’ weeping over the deceased cause him any harm?”

He replied:

There is no sin in tears shed by the eyes or sorrow in the heart. However, lamentation and wailing are forbidden. Any charity given on behalf of the deceased benefits him.

He was asked about matters relating to offering condolences.

He replied:

Offering condolences is recommended. It is reported in al-Tirmidhī that the Prophet, may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, said:

“Whoever consoles someone afflicted by calamity will have a reward like his.”
