turns away from My remembrance will have a life of hardship.”

“And We will raise him blind on the Day of Resurrection.”

“He will say, ‘My Lord, why have You raised me blind when I once could see?’”

“He will say, ‘Thus did Our signs come to you, but you forgot them; and thus will you be forgotten today.’”

Ibn ʿAbbās said: Allah has guaranteed that whoever reads the Quran and acts upon its teachings will neither go astray in this world nor suffer in the Hereafter.

He, the Exalted, says of the people of the Fire:

“Whenever a group is cast into it, its keepers will ask them, ‘Did no warner come to you?’”

“They will say, ‘Yes, a warner did come to us, but we denied him and said, “Allah has revealed nothing; you are merely in great error.”’”

And He, the Exalted, says:

“Those who disbelieved will be driven to Hell in groups. When they reach it, its gates will be opened, and its keepers will say to them, ‘Did messengers from among yourselves not come to you, reciting your Lord’s verses to you and warning you of the meeting of this Day of yours?’ They will say, ‘Yes, but the decree of punishment has come into effect against the disbelievers.’”

And He, the Exalted, says:

“We send the messengers only as bearers of glad tidings and as warners. Whoever believes and reforms—no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.”

“But those who deny Our signs will be afflicted with punishment because of their disobedience.”

And He, the Exalted, says:

“Indeed, We have revealed to you as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him. We also revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, the descendants, Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron and Solomon; and to David We gave the Psalms.”

“And there are messengers whose stories We have already related to you, and messengers whose stories We have not related to you. And Allah spoke directly to Moses.”

“Messengers bearing glad tidings and warnings, so that people would have no argument against Allah after the coming of the messengers.”

There are many passages like these in the Quran. This is a matter on which all the religious communities—Muslims, Jews and Christians—are agreed: they affirm intermediaries between Allah and His servants, namely the messengers who conveyed on Allah’s behalf
