He was asked:
Does the reward of Quran recitation by the deceased’s family reach him? If someone dedicates to the deceased the reward of glorifying Allah, praising Him, declaring that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and proclaiming His greatness, does that reward reach him or not?
He answered:
The reward of his family’s Quran recitation, their glorification of Allah, their proclamation of His greatness, and all their other remembrance of Allah Most High reaches the deceased if they dedicate it to him. And Allah knows best.
He was asked:
According to the school of al-Shāfi'ī, does the reward of a child’s Quran recitation reach the deceased parent or not?
He answered:
As for whether the reward of bodily acts of worship—such as Quran recitation, prayer, and fasting—reaches the deceased, the position of Ahmad, Abū Hanīfa, and a group of the followers of Mālik and al-Shāfi'ī is that it does. Most of the followers of Mālik and al-Shāfi'ī, however, hold that it does not. And Allah knows best.
