and uncover their heads, instead of following the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, of grooming the hair and covering the head. They gather for whistling and clapping instead of following the way prescribed by Allah and His Messenger of gathering for the five daily prayers and other acts of worship. Their prayers lack essential pillars and obligatory elements, yet they gather to perform their reprehensible innovations in the most complete manner.
They prepare lādhan, rosewater, and saffron for handling serpents and entering fire, employing various physical tricks and satanic states instead of the lawful paths and spiritual states bestowed by the Most Merciful that Allah has granted His God-fearing allies. They corrupt some women and boys instead of observing what Allah has commanded of chastity, lowering the gaze, guarding one’s private parts, and restraining the tongue.
Anyone who openly practises religious innovation must be reproved. One prescribed form of such reproof is to shun him until he repents. This includes religious people refraining from offering the funeral prayer for him, to deter those who imitate his way and call others to it. Mālik ibn Anas, Ahmad ibn Hanbal, and other leading scholars have prescribed such measures. And Allah knows best.
