Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

The Book of Funerals

He—may Allah Most High have mercy on him—was asked:

Concerning Muslims who live alongside Christians: Is it permissible for a Muslim to visit a Christian when he is ill and to follow his funeral procession when he dies? Does a Muslim who does so incur any sin?

He replied:

Praise be to Allah, Lord of all worlds. He must not follow his funeral procession. As for visiting him when he is ill, there is nothing wrong with that, for it may serve to win him over to Islam. If he dies as a disbeliever, however, Hellfire becomes his due; hence no funeral prayer is offered for him. And Allah knows best.

He was also asked:

Concerning the bile of slaughtered animals and other animals, whether lawful or forbidden to eat: Is it permissible to use their bile as a remedy or not?
