Chapter: The Two Eid Prayers

Shaykh al-Islām was asked:

Is any particular recitation required in the two Eid prayers? What should a person say between successive takbīrs (declarations that Allah is greatest)?

He replied:

Praise be to Allah. Whatever he recites is permissible, just as it is in other similar prayers. However, it is good to recite Sūrat Qāf and Sūrat al-Qamar, or other passages mentioned in the transmitted reports.

Between the takbīrs, he should praise and extol Allah, invoke blessings upon the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and offer whatever supplications he wishes. The scholars have transmitted something to this effect from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd.

It is good if he says:

“Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and Allah is greatest. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad. O Allah, forgive me and have mercy on me.”

The same applies if he says:

“Allah is supremely great, abundant praise belongs to Allah, and glory be to Allah morning and evening,”

or something similar.
