Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

In the year of the conquest of Mecca, he did not perform ‘umrah. Rather, abundant reports, accepted by those knowledgeable about his life, establish that he performed only four ‘umrahs after the Hijrah: three in Dhū al-Qa‘dah and the fourth together with his Hajj.

The first was the ‘umrah of al-Hudaybiyah, when the polytheists prevented him from proceeding. He therefore left the state of ritual consecration at al-Hudaybiyah because he had been prevented from continuing, without entering Mecca. This was in Dhū al-Qa‘dah. The following year, he performed the ‘umrah of al-Qadiyyah, also in Dhū al-Qa‘dah. Then, after distributing the spoils of Hunayn at al-Ji‘rānah, he performed ‘umrah from al-Ji‘rānah, likewise in Dhū al-Qa‘dah. The fourth was together with his Hajj. Neither he nor anyone who performed Hajj with him performed ‘umrah after that Hajj, except ‘Ā’ishah. She had begun menstruating, so he instructed her to enter the state of consecration for Hajj. Afterwards, he sent her with her brother ‘Abd al-Rahmān to perform ‘umrah from al-Tan‘īm. For this reason, the mosques built there were called the Mosques of ‘Ā’ishah. During the Prophet’s lifetime, peace and blessings be upon him, none of the Companions undertook an ‘umrah from Mecca, either before or after the conquest, except ‘Ā’ishah.

All of this is established by authentic hadiths transmitted through so many chains as to constitute mass transmission. Among them is the report in the two Sahīh collections from Anas:

“The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, performed four ‘umrahs, all in Dhū al-Qa‘dah except the one accompanying his Hajj: an ‘umrah from al-Hudaybiyah in Dhū al-Qa‘dah; an ‘umrah the following year in Dhū al-Qa‘dah; an ‘umrah from al-Ji‘rānah in Dhū al-Qa‘dah, where he distributed the spoils of Hunayn; and an ‘umrah together with his Hajj.”

This is Muslim’s wording. Al-Bukhārī’s wording is:

“He performed four ‘umrahs: the ‘umrah of al-Hudaybiyah in Dhū al-Qa‘dah, when the polytheists prevented him from proceeding; and an ‘umrah the following year in
