Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

with the following wording:

“He continued until the twilight was nearly gone, then dismounted and prayed Maghrib. He then gave the call to commence the prayer, by which time the twilight had disappeared, and led us in prayer. Then he turned to us and said: ‘When a matter required the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to hasten, he would do this.’”

He said:

“Fudayl ibn Ghazwān and ‘Ittāf ibn Khālid narrated a report with the same meaning from Nāfi‘. However, the account transmitted by those of Nāfi‘’s companions renowned for their mastery of hadith is more likely to be correct.”

Sālim ibn ‘Abd Allāh, Aslam—the freedman of ‘Umar—‘Abd Allāh ibn Dīnār, and Ismā‘īl ibn ‘Abd al-Rahmān ibn Dhu’ayb narrated from Ibn ‘Umar accounts similar to theirs. As for Sālim’s hadith, ‘Āsim ibn Muhammad narrated it from his brother ‘Umar ibn Muhammad, from Sālim. As for Aslam’s hadith, he cited its chain through Ibn Abī Maryam: Muhammad ibn Ja‘far informed us: Zayd ibn Aslam informed me, from his father, who said:

“I was with Ibn ‘Umar when news reached him that Safiyyah was suffering severe pain. He hastened his journey until, after the twilight had disappeared, he dismounted and prayed Maghrib and ‘Ishā’, combining them. He said: ‘I saw the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, delay Maghrib and combine the two prayers when he needed to press on with his journey.’”

Al-Bukhārī narrated it in his Sahīh from Ibn Abī Maryam.

He also cited a chain from the book of Ya‘qūb ibn Sufyān: Abū Sālih and Ibn Bukayr informed us, saying: al-Layth narrated to us, saying: Rabī‘ah ibn Abī ‘Abd al-Rahmān said: ‘Abd Allāh ibn Dīnār—one of the upright Muslims, truthful and devout—narrated to me, saying:

“The sun set while we were with ‘Abd Allāh ibn ‘Umar, and we continued travelling. When we saw that he had continued into the evening, we said to him: ‘The prayer!’ He remained silent until the twilight had disappeared and the stars had begun to sink. Then he dismounted and offered both prayers together. He then said:
