Allah Most High also says, describing the hypocrites:
“Have you not seen those who claim to believe in what has been revealed to you and what was revealed before you? They wish to seek judgment from false authorities, although they were commanded to reject them. Satan wishes to lead them far astray.”
“When they are told, ‘Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger,’ you see the hypocrites turn away from you in aversion.”
“How will it be when a calamity befalls them because of what their own hands have done, and then they come to you, swearing by Allah, ‘We intended nothing but goodness and reconciliation’?”
“Those are the ones whose hearts Allah knows. So turn away from them, admonish them, and speak to them in words that reach their very souls.”
These verses contain many lessons. They show the misguidance and hypocrisy of anyone who seeks judgment from something other than the Book and the Sunnah, even if he claims that he wishes to reconcile scriptural proofs with what he himself calls “rational arguments”—notions taken from certain false authorities among the polytheists and the People of the Book. Other lessons may also be drawn from them.
Anyone whose error arises from neglecting his obligations—for example, following the Quran and having faith—or from transgressing Allah’s limits by taking paths He has forbidden, or from following his own desires without guidance from Allah, has wronged himself and is among those subject to the threat of punishment. This is unlike someone who strives earnestly to obey Allah and His Messenger, inwardly and outwardly, seeking the truth through his efforts as Allah and His Messenger have commanded. Such a person’s error is forgiven.
As Allah Most High says:
“The Messenger believes in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, and so do the believers. All believe in Allah, His angels, His books, and His messengers. ‘We make no distinction between any of His messengers.’”
And continuing to His words:
“Allah does not burden any soul beyond its capacity. It will have the good it has earned and bear the evil it has earned
