Then al-Bukhārī narrated the saying:
“Do not recite behind me except al-Fātihah.”
He mentioned its chains of transmission and the variations in its transmission, saying: Shujā ibn al-Walīd narrated to us; al-Nadr narrated to us; Ikrimah narrated to us; Amr ibn Sa‘d narrated to us, from Amr ibn Shu‘ayb, from his father, from his grandfather, who said (1).

Then al-Bukhārī narrated his saying, “Do not recite behind me except Umm al-Qurʾān (al-Fātiha).” He mentioned its transmission routes and the variations therein, saying: Shujāʿ ibn al-Walīd narrated to us; al-Nadr narrated to us; ʿIkrima narrated to us; ʿAmr ibn Saʿd narrated to us, from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: [The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “Do you recite behind me?” They replied: “Yes, innā lanahdaʾu hādhā.” He said: “Then do not do so except with Umm al-Qurʾān.”]

The passage in square brackets is missing from the original, as the compiler, may Allah have mercy on him, noted. It appears in al-Bukhārī’s treatise al-Qirāʾa (Recitation), p. 18. See also al-Bayhaqī’s al-Qirāʾa khalf al-Imām (Recitation behind the Imam), p. 79, hadith 167.

ثم روى البخاري قوله: " لا تقرؤوا خلفي إلا بأم القرآن "، وذكر طرقه وما فيه من الاختلاف، فقال: حدثنا شجاع بن الوليد، ثنا النضر، ثنا عكرمة، ثنا عمرو بن سعد. عن عمرو بن شعيب عن أبيه عن جده قال: [قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: أتقرأون خلفي؟ قالوا: نعم، إنا لنهدأ هذا، قال: فلا تفعلوا إلا بأم القرآن].

وما بين معقوفتين ساقط من الأصل كما نبه إليه الجامع رحمه الله، وهو في جزء (القراءة) للبخاري ص ١٨، وانظر (القراءة خلف الإمام) للبيهقي ص ٧٩ (ح ١٦٧).
