He was asked:
“What is the meaning of the Prophet’s words—peace and blessings be upon him—‘Do not turn your homes into graves’?”
He answered:
The wording of the hadith is:
“Offer some of your prayers in your homes.”
If you do not remember Allah in them, you are like the dead, and your homes are like graves. For it is authentically reported that the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—said:
“The likeness of one who remembers his Lord and one who does not is that of the living and the dead.”
Another wording states:
“The likeness of a house in which Allah is remembered and one in which He is not remembered is that of the living and the dead.”
He was asked:
“What about the prayer of mid-Sha'bān?”
He answered:
If a person prays on the night of mid-Sha'bān alone or in a private congregation, as groups among the early generations used to do, that is better. As for gathering in mosques for a prayer with a fixed number of units—such as regularly gathering to offer one hundred units of prayer with a thousand recitations of “Say: He is Allah, One”—this is an innovation that none of the imams regarded as recommended. And Allah knows best.
