Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

He was asked—may Allah have mercy on him:

“What does our master say about someone who recites aloud while people are offering Sunnah prayers or the prayer of greeting the mosque, disturbing them with his loud recitation? Is his reciting aloud disliked or not?”

He replied:

No one may recite aloud, whether in prayer or outside it, if others are praying in the mosque and his loud recitation disturbs them. Indeed:

“The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came out to the people while they were praying in Ramadan and reciting aloud. He said, ‘O people, each of you is conversing privately with his Lord, so do not raise your voices over one another in recitation.’”

He also replied—may Allah Most High, Most High, have mercy on him:

No one may recite aloud in a manner that disturbs others, such as those who are praying.
