He was asked:

“Who is better: a reciter of the Quran who does not act upon it, or a devout worshipper?”

He replied:

If the worshipper worships without knowledge, he may be worse than a sinful scholar, or the sinful scholar may be worse than him. If, however, he worships Allah with knowledge, fulfilling his obligations and avoiding what is forbidden, then he is better than the sinful scholar—unless that scholar’s good deeds outweigh his evil deeds to such an extent that the good remaining to his credit exceeds the good deeds of that worshipper. And Allah knows best.

He was asked:

“Which is better: listening to the Quran or offering voluntary prayers? Is recitation disliked when prayers other than the obligatory prayers are being performed, or not?”

He replied:

Someone reciting the Quran while others are offering voluntary prayers must not recite so loudly that he distracts them. “For the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came out to his Companions
