He was asked:
If a man laughs during prayer, is his prayer invalidated?
He replied:
Smiling does not invalidate the prayer. Laughing aloud during prayer, however, invalidates it, but does not invalidate his ablution according to the majority of scholars, including Mālik, al-Shāfiʿī and Ahmad. Nevertheless, according to the stronger of the two views, it is recommended that he renew his ablution, because he has committed a sin and to take account of the scholarly disagreement: according to Abū Hanīfa’s school, his ablution is invalidated. And Allah knows best.
