and the Sunnah, and both are obligatory by consensus, for Allah Most High says:
“O you who believe, bow and prostrate.”
And He, Most High, says:
“On the Day when a Shin is uncovered and they are called to prostrate but cannot do so, their eyes downcast, humiliation will cover them. They had been called to prostrate while they were sound in body.”
And He, Most High, says:
“What is the matter with them that they do not believe, and when the Quran is recited to them, they do not prostrate?”
And He, Most High, says:
“Only those believe in Our signs who, when reminded of them, fall down in prostration and glorify their Lord with praise, and are not arrogant.”
And He, Most High, says:
“Prostrate and draw near.”
And He, Most High, says:
“Do you not see that to Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on earth, as do the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, the creatures, and many people? But many others have deserved punishment.”
This indicates that those people who do not prostrate to Allah have deserved punishment. He also says:
“And during the night prostrate to Him, and glorify Him through the long night.”
And He, Most High, says:
“So glorify your Lord with praise and be among those who prostrate.”
And He, Most High, says:
“When they are told, ‘Bow down,’ they do not bow.”
And He, Most High, says:
“Your allies are only Allah, His Messenger, and those who believe—those who establish prayer, give zakah, and bow in worship.”
Since Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has made bowing and prostrating to Him obligatory in His Book, just as He has made prayer itself obligatory, it is the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who explains to people what has been revealed to them. His Sunnah interprets the Book, clarifies it, points to its meaning, and expresses it.
