Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

then rise until you are standing upright. Then do this throughout your prayer.”

In another version he recorded:

“Then bow until you are at rest in that position, then rise until you are standing upright.”

The remainder is the same.

Another version states:

“When you have done this, your prayer is complete. Whatever you leave out of this, you have diminished your prayer by that much.”

Rifā‘ah ibn Rāfi‘, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that a man entered the mosque. He then related the hadith, including the following words of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace:

“No one’s prayer is complete until he performs ablution, applying the water to the prescribed parts, then proclaims Allah’s greatness, praises Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, extols Him, and recites whatever he wishes of the Quran. Then he says, ‘Allah is the Greatest,’ and bows until he is at rest in that position. Then he says, ‘Allah is the Greatest,’ and raises his head until he is standing upright. Then he prostrates until he is at rest in that position, then says, ‘Allah is the Greatest.’ Then he raises his head until he is sitting upright, then says, ‘Allah is the Greatest,’ and prostrates until his joints are at rest. Then he raises his head and proclaims Allah’s greatness. When he has done this, his prayer is complete.”

Another version states:

“The prayer of any one of you is not complete until he performs ablution thoroughly as Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has commanded: washing his face and his hands up to the elbows, and wiping his head and his feet up to the ankles. Then he proclaims Allah’s greatness and praises Him, then recites whatever of the Quran he is permitted to recite and finds easy.”

He then related wording similar to the first version, including:

“Then he proclaims Allah’s greatness and prostrates, placing his face—or perhaps he said, his forehead—firmly on the ground until his joints are at rest and relaxed
