Chapter: What Is Disliked in Prayer

Shaykh al-Islām—may Allah sanctify his soul—said:

Section: What Allah and His Messenger Have Commanded concerning Establishing Prayer, Performing It Fully, and Maintaining Stillness during It

Allah Most High says in several places in His Book:

“Establish prayer and give zakah.”

And He Most High says:

“Indeed, mankind was created anxious.”
“When evil touches him, impatient,”
“And when good touches him, withholding,”
“Except those who pray.”

And He Most High says:

“Successful indeed are the believers,”
“Those who are humble in their prayer,”
“And those who turn away from idle talk,”
“And those who give zakah,”
“And those who guard their chastity,”
“Except with their spouses or those whom their right hands possess, for then they are free from blame.”
“But whoever seeks beyond that—it is they who are the transgressors.”
“And those who are faithful to their trusts and their pledges,”
“And those who carefully maintain their prayers.”

And He Most High says:

“Seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, it is burdensome except for the humbly submissive.”

And He Most High says:

“But they were succeeded by generations who neglected prayer and followed their desires; they will therefore meet with ruin.”

And He Most High says:

“When you are secure, establish prayer. Indeed, prayer has been prescribed for the believers at appointed times.”

And He Most High says:

“Carefully maintain the prayers, especially the middle prayer
