Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

was neither practised by the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—nor recommended by any scholar. It introduces supplication into the prayer where it does not belong: one supplication separates the two salutations, while the other is appended to the salutation. No one may interrupt the prescribed form in this way. It would be like saying:

“Allah hears those who praise Him. I ask You to grant me Paradise. Our Lord, to You belongs all praise. I ask You to save me from the Fire,” or similar additions. And Allah knows best.
