Abraham” encompass blessings upon him and upon all the other prophets descended from Abraham’s family. Allah Most High said:
“And We placed among his descendants prophethood and the Scripture.”
He then commanded us to invoke blessings specifically upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, equal to those we invoked upon him together with the rest of Abraham’s family collectively. His household receives the share befitting them, while the remainder goes to him. Thus, this immense measure of blessings is sought for him.
Clearly, this is a tremendous distinction through which he receives more than Abraham or anyone else. For if what is sought through the supplication is merely equal to the blessings used as the standard of comparison, while he has an ample share of the blessings being compared and receives most of what is sought, then his share of the blessings being compared alone exceeds that of Abraham or anyone else—even if the total sought equals the blessings being compared. Added to this is his share of the blessings used as the standard of comparison. This reveals his superiority over each of the prophets in a manner befitting him. May Allah bestow blessings and abundant peace upon him, and reward him on our behalf with the finest reward He has granted a messenger on behalf of his community.
O Allah, bestow blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, just as You bestowed blessings upon the family of Abraham. You are indeed Praiseworthy, Glorious. And bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, just as You blessed the family of Abraham. You are indeed Praiseworthy, Glorious.
