, may Allah bless him and grant him peace:

“Say: ‘O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon the family of Abraham. And bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed the family of Abraham among all peoples. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.’ The greeting of peace is as you have learned.”

Others besides Muslim also transmitted this report, including Mālik, Ahmad, Abū Dāwūd, al-Nasā’ī and al-Tirmidhī, with different wording. Some chains of transmission have “as You sent blessings upon Abraham” and “as You blessed Abraham,” without mentioning “the family.” Another version has “as You sent blessings upon Abraham” and “as You blessed the family of Abraham.”

Thus, in these hadiths found in the Sahīh collections, and in the reports transmitted, I have not found the wording “Abraham and the family of Abraham.” Rather, the well-known wording in most of the hadiths and their chains of transmission is “the family of Abraham,” while some have “Abraham.” Sometimes “the family of Abraham” occurs in one of the two places and “Abraham” in the other.

The wording “Abraham and the family of Abraham” has been transmitted in a hadith reported by al-Bayhaqī, from Yahyā ibn al-Sabbāq, from a man of Banū al-Hārith, from Ibn Mas‘ūd, from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who said:

“When any of you recites the tashahhud in prayer, let him say: ‘O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and bless Muhammad and have mercy on Muhammad, as You sent blessings, bestowed blessings and had mercy upon Abraham and the family of Abraham. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.’”
