He—may Allah have mercy on him—was asked:

“Does raising the hands after bowing invalidate the prayer or not?”

He answered:

Praise be to Allah. It does not invalidate the prayer, by agreement of the imams. Indeed, most leading Muslim scholars recommend it, as is abundantly attested in the Sunnah of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, through reports from Ibn ‘Umar, Mālik ibn al-Huwayrith, Wā’il ibn Hujr, Abū Humayd al-Sā‘idī and Abū Qatādah al-Ansārī among a group of ten Companions, as well as reports from ‘Alī, Abū Hurayrah and others.

It is recommended according to the majority of scholars. This is the position of al-Shāfi‘ī, Ahmad and Mālik, according to one of the two reports from him. Abū Hanīfah said that it is not recommended; he did not say that it invalidates the prayer. And Allah knows best.

He was asked:

“Regarding the words of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, ‘Nor can wealth avail its possessor against You’: should it be read in the genitive or the nominative? Please give us a ruling; may you be rewarded.”
