“A Principle”
Concerning the forms of outward acts of worship over which the Muslim community has disagreed, both in transmitted reports and in scholarly opinion: such as the call to prayer, reciting the basmalah aloud, the qunūt supplication in the dawn prayer, the salutation ending the prayer, raising the hands during it, and placing one hand over the other. Other examples include performing ‘umrah before Hajj with a break between them, performing Hajj alone, combining ‘umrah and Hajj, and similar matters.
Disputes over these outward acts of worship and religious rites have given rise to various kinds of harm that Allah, His Messenger, and His believing servants detest:
“First”
The ignorance of many people—or most of them—concerning the prescribed practice established in the Sunnah, which Allah and His Messenger love, which the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, instituted for his community, and which he commanded them to follow.
“Second”
The injustice and aggression that many members of the community—or most of them—commit against one another: sometimes by forbidding others what Allah has not forbidden and hating them for things for which Allah does not hate them; and sometimes by neglecting the rights owed to them and the ties with them that Allah has commanded them to maintain, because they do not agree with him
