Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

Abū Mahdhūrah began giving the adhān and afterwards, until the Prophet’s death. He also approved of Abū Mahdhūrah’s adhān and did not regard it as disliked. This is a principle he consistently applies to all forms of worship, both their words and actions: he approves of everything established from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, without regarding any of it as disliked, while being aware of these forms and either preferring some or considering them all equal.

Likewise, he permits recitation according to any established Quranic reading, even though he has preferred certain readings.

Examples include the different forms of the adhān and iqāmah, and the different versions of the tashahhud established from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, such as those narrated by Ibn Masʿūd, Abū Mūsā, Ibn ʿAbbās, and others. His preferred version is Ibn Masʿūd’s, for several reasons:

It is the most authentic and best known. Its wording has been preserved without variation in a single letter. Moreover, most of the other versions agree with its wording, indicating that this was the version the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, usually instructed people to recite.

The same applies to the transmitted forms of the opening supplication and seeking refuge in Allah, even though he preferred some of them. It also applies to the points at which the hands are raised during prayer, where they are placed after being raised, and the prescribed forms of praising Allah after declaring that He hears those who praise Him. Further examples include the different forms of invoking blessings upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, even though he preferred some of them.
