He was asked:
“Does a Muslim who abandons prayer but performs the Friday prayer deserve to be cursed?”
He replied:
All praise is due to Allah. Such a person has incurred punishment by agreement of the Muslims. According to the majority of scholars, including Mālik, al-Shāfiʿī, and Ahmad, he must be called upon to repent; if he does not repent, he must be executed.
Cursing those who abandon prayer in general terms is permissible. As for cursing a specific individual, it is preferable to refrain, since he may repent. And Allah knows best.
