and he is patient, it is good for him.”
The patient and grateful person is the believer whom Allah has described in several places in His Book. Whoever has not been blessed by Allah with patience and gratitude is in a wretched state: both prosperity and adversity lead him to an evil outcome. How much more so when these concern momentous matters of the kind in which prophets and the utterly truthful are tried—matters involving the establishment of the foundations of religion and the safeguarding of faith and the Quran against the schemes of those given to hypocrisy, heresy, and slander. All praise, then, belongs to Allah: abundant, pure, and blessed praise, as our Lord loves and is pleased with, and as befits His noble Face and majestic glory.
It is Allah whom we ask to keep you and all other believers steadfast through the firm word in this worldly life and in the Hereafter; to perfect His inward and outward blessings upon you; and to grant His religion, His Book, and His believing servants victory over the disbelievers and hypocrites—those against whom we have been commanded in His clear Book to strive and to be stern.
As for you, rejoice in the good tidings of blessings and joys beyond anything you have imagined. The significance of this “case” and what it entails is greater than those who consider only the particulars of matters suppose.
For this reason, among the things I said when addressing Amīn al-Rasūl, ‘Alā’ al-Dīn al-Taybarsī, were these words:
The right at stake in this “case” is not mine; rather, it belongs to Allah, His Messenger, and the believers from the east of the earth to its west. I cannot alter the religion, lower the banner of the Muslims, or renounce the religion of Islam for the sake of so-and-so.
