in these circumstances imposes a hardship from which the Muslim community has been relieved. Furthermore, if a dog’s saliva comes into contact with game, it need not be washed off according to the stronger of the two scholarly views, which is also one of the two positions reported from Ahmad. This is because the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, never instructed anyone to wash it off. Thus, he excused a dog’s saliva where there was a need, but commanded that it be washed off where there was no such need. This shows that the Lawgiver took people’s welfare and needs into account. And Allah knows best.
He was asked:
If a dog comes out of water and shakes itself over something, must that thing be washed seven times?
He replied:
According to the schools of al-Shāfiʿī and Ahmad, may Allah be pleased with them both, it must be washed seven times. According to the schools of Abū Hanīfah and Mālik, may Allah be pleased with them both, washing it seven times is not required. And Allah knows best.
He was asked:
Is the water left over after a mule or donkey has drunk from it pure?
He replied:
As for the water left over after a mule or donkey has drunk from it, most scholars permit using it for ablution, including Mālik, al-Shāfiʿī, and Ahmad according to one of the two positions reported from him.
