This will become clear when we discuss the hair of dead animals, Allah Most High willing.

For every animal held to be impure, the discussion of its hair and feathers is the same as that of a dog’s hair. If one holds that every fanged beast of prey and every bird with talons is impure, except cats and creatures smaller than them—as is the view of many Iraqi scholars and the better-known of the two positions reported from Ahmad—then their feathers and hair are subject to this same disagreement: are they impure?

Two positions are reported from Ahmad. According to the first, they are pure; this is the view of the majority, including Abū Hanīfah, al-Shāfi‘ī, and Mālik. According to the second, they are impure; this is the position preferred by many of Ahmad’s later followers. The view that they are pure is correct, as explained above.

Moreover, the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, permitted keeping dogs for hunting, guarding livestock, and protecting crops. Anyone who keeps a dog will inevitably come into contact with moisture from its hair, just as one comes into contact with moisture from the hair of mules, donkeys, and other animals. Thus, to hold their hair impure
