After the session, Ibn al-Wakīl and others spread an indescribable amount of lies and fabrications that contradicted the actual state of affairs. Know, therefore, that anything reaching you that contradicts what I have described is lies and fabrication.

We still do not know how the matter unfolded in Egypt, except for what appears in the sultan’s letter:

“It has reached us that Shaykh So-and-so has written a statement of creed to which he calls people, and that some people have objected to it. Let a session therefore be convened for him concerning this matter. Review what transpires, investigate the matter yourself thoroughly, and inform us of it.”
