‘Allah has not placed your healing in anything forbidden.’” Narrated by Abū Hātim ibn Hibbān in his Sahīh. Another version reads:

“Allah has not placed your healing in what He has forbidden you.”

Some hadith masters graded it authentic. This hadith explicitly addresses the issue.

The fourth argument:

Abū Dāwūd narrated in his Sunan:

“A man was prescribed a frog to include in a medicine, but the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade killing frogs and said, ‘Their croaking glorifies Allah.’”

Here is a forbidden animal whose use was not permitted for medical treatment. This explicitly addresses the issue. The prohibition concerning frogs may even be less severe than that concerning other repugnant things, since the most that has been said about them is that their croaking glorifies Allah. What, then, of pork, carrion, and the like?

All this makes clear to you how little importance he attached to seeking medical treatment and insisting upon it, treating it as a matter of kindness to the sick and putting them at ease. Thus, when a man told the truthful and trusted Prophet, “I am a physician,” he replied:

“You are a caregiver; Allah is the Physician.”

The fifth argument:

It is also narrated in his Sunan that “the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade foul medicine.” This is a comprehensive and precise text, stating the very ruling at issue.

The sixth argument:

The hadith traced back to the Prophet:

“I would not care what I did—or what I committed—if I drank theriac, wore an amulet, or composed poetry of my own.”
