He was asked:
“A man engages in amorous play with his wife, then some time later urinates and discharges something resembling semen, with pain and straining. Must he perform the ritual bath?”
He replied:
The semen whose discharge necessitates the ritual bath is that which is emitted with sexual pleasure. It is white and thick, and its smell resembles that of date-palm blossoms.
As for semen discharged without sexual pleasure, whether because of illness or another cause, this is abnormal and does not necessitate the ritual bath according to most scholars, including Mālik, Abū Hanīfah and Ahmad, just as non-menstrual vaginal bleeding does not necessitate the ritual bath. Discharge that follows urination, whether accompanied by pain or not, falls into this category and does not necessitate the ritual bath according to the majority of scholars. And Allah knows best.
He was asked:
“A woman was told: ‘If you have impurity due to menstruation or major ritual impurity, do not perform ablution without wiping inside the vagina with water.’ Is this correct?”
