Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

he had drunk. He said:

“It contains fat.”

He also said:

“Whoever spends the night with grease on his hand and suffers some harm should blame no one but himself.”

If he prescribed such washing after milk and to remove grease, how could he not prescribe it after eating mutton?

Third: If the command to perform ablution after eating camel meat is obligatory, it cannot be understood as washing the hands and mouth. If it is a recommendation, then such washing cannot cease to be recommended after eating mutton. Yet the hadith exempts mutton from the ruling it establishes for camel meat. This rules out understanding it as washing the hands, whether the ruling conveyed by the hadith is an obligation or a recommendation.

Fourth: He also coupled this ruling with that of praying in their resting places, distinguishing between the two kinds of animal. This clearly indicates that the ablution meant is the ablution for prayer. Allah knows best.

He was asked:

A man recites the Quran but is not always able to perform ablution. May he write it on a tablet and read it, whether or not he has performed ablution?

Some Mālikī scholars have stated that the meaning of His words,

“None touch it except the purified,”

is purification of the heart, and that a Muslim does not become impure. Some Shāfiʿī scholars said: “It is not permissible
