Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

He was asked:

“Does touching any penis, whether human or animal, invalidate ablution? And does ‘the inner surface of the hand’ mean the palm alone, excluding the inner surfaces of the fingers?”

He replied:

“Touching the private parts of a nonhuman animal, whether alive or dead, does not invalidate ablution, according to the unanimous agreement of the imams. Some later scholars of al-Shāfiʿī’s school mentioned two views on this. Their disagreement concerned only touching human private parts. ‘The inner surface of the hand’ includes its entire inner surface: both the palm and the fingers.

“Some hold that such touching does not invalidate ablution under any circumstances, such as Abū Hanīfa and, according to one report, Ahmad.”

He was asked:

“If a man’s palm and the inner surfaces of his fingers happen to touch his penis, does this invalidate his ablution?”

He replied:

“If he did not do so deliberately, his ablution is not invalidated.”
