Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, or on a hadith with a weak transmission:

“He wiped his head as far as the back of the head.”

Such a report cannot serve as a reliable basis, nor can it counter what the hadiths indicate. Whoever omits wiping the neck has a valid ablution, by scholarly consensus. And Allah knows best.

Shaykh al-Islām, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

Washing the feet during ablution is established from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, through mass transmission. Both his practice and his command to do so have been transmitted. Among these is his statement authentically reported through several chains, including the hadiths of Abū Hurayrah, ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar, and ʿĀ’ishah:

“Woe to the heels from the Fire!”

One wording reads:

“Woe to the heels and the soles of the feet from the Fire!”

Whoever performs ablution as the people of innovation do—not washing the soles of his feet or his heels, but merely wiping their upper surfaces—then woe to his heels and the soles of his feet from the Fire.

Wiping over leather socks is established from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, through mass transmission. Wiping over the feet has also been reported from him in circumstances of need, such as when a person is wearing sandals that are difficult to remove. As for wiping the feet when both are fully exposed, no one has reported this from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. It contradicts the Book and the Sunnah. As for its contradiction of the Sunnah, that is evident
