He was also asked about cleansing after relieving oneself:
“Does a man need to stand up, walk about, clear his throat, and cleanse himself with stones or other materials every little while as he goes to and fro, thinking that something has come out of him? Did the early generations, may Allah be pleased with them, do this? Or is it an innovation, or something permissible?”
He replied:
Praise be to Allah.
Clearing one’s throat after urinating, walking about, jumping upwards, climbing stairs, hanging from a rope, checking the penis by making urine flow, and similar practices—all these are innovations. They are neither obligatory nor recommended according to the leading Muslim scholars. Indeed, according to the correct view, tugging at the penis is also an innovation; the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, did not prescribe it. Likewise, squeezing out urine is an innovation that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, did not prescribe.
The hadith narrated concerning this is weak and has no basis. Urine flows naturally, and when urination is finished, it stops naturally. It is as has been said:
“Like an udder: leave it alone and it rests; milk it and it flows.”
