For the saved sect—the adherents of the Sunnah and the community—believe in these matters just as they believe in what Allah has revealed in His mighty Book, without distortion or negation, and without specifying how His attributes are or likening Him to His creation. Rather, they follow the middle course among the sects of this community, just as this community follows the middle course among the nations.

Thus, concerning (the attributes of Allah, glorified and exalted is He, they follow a middle course between the Jahmiyyah, who negate His attributes, and the Mushabbihah, who liken Him to His creation.

Concerning (the acts of Allah Most High, they follow a middle course between the Qadariyyah and the Jabriyyah; and concerning (Allah’s threats of punishment, between the Murji’ah and the Wa‘īdiyyah among the Qadariyyah and others.

Concerning (the designations relating to faith and religion, they follow a middle course between the Harūriyyah and the Mu‘tazilah on one side, and the Murji’ah and the Jahmiyyah on the other; (and concerning the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, between the Rawāfid and the Khawārij.
