concerning the major principles, in our discussions of legal maxims and elsewhere. This, however, is only a response to a request for a fatwa, in which we have briefly highlighted general points that convey some of the merits of the people of the Prophet’s city, Medina. Knowing this is part of religion, especially when people are unaware of the extent of their knowledge and religious devotion. Explaining this is akin to explaining the knowledge and religious devotion of the Companions to those unaware of it.
Just as explaining the Sunnah, the virtues of the Companions, and their giving precedence to al-Siddīq and al-Fārūq is among the most important matters of religion when the innovations of the Rāfidah and others like them emerge, so too explaining the Sunnah and the positions of the people of Medina, and giving these precedence over the positions of the people of other cities, is of the greatest religious importance when the innovations of the ignorant emerge—those who follow conjecture and their own desires.
Allah knows best. May Allah Most High guide us and all our fellow believers to what He loves and is pleased with. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. May Allah bless our master Muhammad, his family, and his Companions, and grant them peace.
