He was asked:
“Should someone who follows a scholar’s opinion in matters open to juristic interpretation be censured or shunned? And what of someone who acts upon one of two scholarly views?”
He replied:
All praise is due to Allah.
In matters open to juristic interpretation, someone who acts upon a scholar’s opinion should neither be censured nor shunned. Likewise, someone who acts upon one of two scholarly views should not be censured. When there are two views on an issue, a person should follow whichever appears to him to be stronger. Otherwise, he should follow a scholar who can be relied upon to explain which of the two views is stronger. And Allah knows best.
