—with a voice(1) while He is standing upon His Throne, a clear, elevated voice that is neither overawing nor harsh, audible to those who are near and those who are far. He will say: ‘I am ad-Dayyān; there is no injustice today.(2) By My might and My majesty, I shall surely exact retaliation for the wronged against the wrong-doer, even for a single slap—even for the blow of a hand.(3) I shall certainly avenge the hornless creature against the horned; I shall question the stick for why it scratched its owner, and I shall question the stone for why it caused its owner to stumble. For this purpose I sent My messengers and revealed My scriptures, and concerning this I said: “We shall set up the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection, so no soul shall be wronged in the least; and even if it be the weight of a mustard seed, We shall bring it forth—and sufficient are We as Reckoners.”(4)’

(2) The text between parentheses does not appear in other copies.
(3) In other copies it reads: “...and if he strikes with his hand.”
(4) The verse is from Sura al-Anbiya (21:47). The hadith is transmitted by al-Khatīb al-Baghdādī in al-Rihlah via three chains; this is one of them (see H[adith] 33, p. 115), where al-Khatīb adds after the verse: “Then the Messenger ﷺ said, ‘The thing I fear most for my Ummah after me is the deeds of the people of Lūt; let my Ummah expect punishment when men pair with men and women with women.’” This chain is, however, classed as weak (al-Ḥāfiẓ, al-Fath 1/174). Al-Dhahabī notes that its originator, Isḥāq ibn Bishr (misnamed Bushayr), is “a liar,” calling the hadith “nearly fabricated.” He is identified as Abū Ḥudhayfa al-Bukhārī, author of Kitāb al-Mubtadāʾ, whose narrations are rejected (Mīzān al-Iʿtidāl 1/184; see also Ibn Ḥibbān, Mīzān 2/93; al-Daraqutnī, al-Du‘afāʾ wa-l-Matrūkīn 216).
