and on the earth, just as Your mercy is in the heaven (1). Forgive us our ḥūbanā (2) and our misdeeds; You are the Lord of the pure. Send down (3) a mercy from Your mercy and a healing from Your healing upon (4) the ailment, so that it may be cured.” Abū Dāwūd recorded it in his Sunan (5).

(5) See Sunan Abu Dawud, Book of Medicine, chapter “How the ruqyah is performed,” hadith no. 3892 (4/218); also recorded by Ahmad in al-Musnad (6/21); al-Darimi in al-Radd ’ala al-Jahmiyya (p. 18); al-Bayhaqi in al-Asma’ wa’l-Sifat (p. 533); al-Dhahabi in al-ʿUlu (p. 27); and al-Lalkai in Sharh Usul Iʿtiqad Ahl al-Sunna, hadith no. 648 (2/389). Its isnad includes Ziyad b. Muhammad al-Ansari. Al-Dhahabi in al-ʿUlu characterizes the hadith as weak; al-Bukhari, al-Nasa’i, and Abu Hatim label it munkar (rejected); Ibn Hibban calls it very weak (munkar jiddan), noting that weak narrators report from prominent ones, thus deserving abandonment. See at-Tahdhib by Ibn Hajar (3/393).
