Al-Hisba fi al-IslamIbn Taimiya

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

Introduction:
Shaykh al-Islam Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad, son of the eminent scholar Shaykh Shihāb al-Dīn ʿAbd al-Ḥalīm, son of the eminent scholar Majd al-Dīn Abū al-Barakāt ʿAbd al-Salām Ibn Taymiyyah—may Allah have mercy on him—said:1

All praise is due to Allah. We seek His help, His guidance, and His forgiveness, and we repent to Him. We seek refuge in Allah from the evils within ourselves and from the consequences of our deeds. Whomever Allah guides, none can misguide; and whomever He allows to stray, none can guide. We bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship but Allah, alone without partner, and we bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. He sent him, just before the Hour, as a bearer of glad tidings and a warner, inviting to Allah by His permission and as an illuminating lamp. Through him Allah guided those who were lost, gave sight to the blind, directed those in error, and opened eyes that were blind, ears that were deaf, and hearts that were sealed. He delivered the message, fulfilled the trust, sincerely advised the community, strove in Allah’s cause as true striving, and worshiped Allah until certainty came to him from his Lord. May Allah—
