Division over fiqh al-wāqiʿ (the jurisprudence of current realities)
Yet we have heard and observed that many Muslim youths have fallen into utter confusion over this branch of knowledge—referred to earlier as fiqh al-wāqiʿ—so that they have split into two camps; regrettably, one group has gone to extremes while the other has been negligent.
You will see and hear from those who aggrandize fiqh al-wāqiʿ, exalting it far beyond its proper academic rank, that they insist every scholar of the Sacred Law must also be versed in what they call fiqh al-wāqiʿ.
The opposite error is likewise found among them: they have led their listeners and followers to believe that anyone who is simply familiar with the present state of the Muslim world is automatically a jurist of the Book and the Sunnah and upon the methodology of the Salaf al-ṣāliḥ (the righteous predecessors).
It is obvious that such a conclusion does not logically follow.
